What Do We Believe?

When the disciples of John the Baptizer asked Jesus if he was the Messiah, Jesus answered, “Tell John what you see and hear: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the deaf hear, and the poor have good news brought to them.” (Matthew 11:2-6)

To know what we at Calvary believe, look at what we do:

• We worship God, gathering as family on Sunday mornings, and provide other times and ways to worship, including morning prayers, the Labyrinth, Taizé services, and individual daily prayers.
• We live in community, lingering for refreshments and fellowship after worship, coming together regularly for shared meals, and creating other opportunities to gather as friends.
• We seek to deepen our knowledge and understanding of God through classes and retreats.
• We continually look for ways to show the compassion of Christ with food, clothing, and shelter for the poor, and after school programs for children.

At this point, you may be thinking, “Don’t all churches worship, promote fellowship among their members, study, and care for the poor?  What makes this church different?”

What makes Calvary different?  We are trans-denominational.  This means we recognize three things:

• First, that every tradition, Orthodox, Roman, and Protestant, expresses a necessary dimension of the Body of Christ.
• Second, no tradition, Orthodox, Roman, or Protestant, contains the whole Body of Christ or is the only one who hears the voice of God.
• And third, to be the whole Body of Christ, we need one another.

Therefore, we at Calvary, seek to bring all the members of the Body of Christ back together like all the voices in one choir.  We are trans-denominational.  This means we believe in the worth of the particular gifts each one brings, and we enjoy opportunities to learn from one another, to create together, and, in our love for one another, show the love of God.
